THE NEW FAMILY OF E-JETS: EVEN MORE SUSTAINABLE

In June 2013, we launched the second generation of the E-Jet family, called E-Jets E2 and consisting of three new aircraft: E175-E2, E190-E2 and E195-E2. The use of advanced technologies in the new jets’ engines, wings and avionics will lead to reduced fuel consumption, CO2 emissions, noise and maintenance costs, at the same time as maximizing the operational efficiency of airlines. The new cabin design will also provide an even more comfortable flying experience for passengers. The forecast is for the E190-E2 model to become operational in the first half of 2018.

DESIGN FOR ENVIRONMENT

Embraer develops its products using Design for Environment concepts and tools, an environmental management methodology that, based on safety, quality, performance and functionality criteria, reduces the negative impacts of a product on human health and the environment throughout its entire life cycle.

BIOFUEL

In 2013, we launched, in partnership with the São Paulo State Foundation for Research Support (Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo, FAPESP) and Boeing, the Flight Plan for Aviation Biofuels in Brazil, a document that points the way towards the development of a biofuels industry for the aerospace sector in the country. A multidisciplinary study is being coordinated by University of Campinas (Universidade Estadual de Campinas, UNICAMP). To date, research indicates that the biofuel resulting from the study will probably be of the drop-in type; in other words, it may be added to the fossil fuel currently used all over the world.

DEVELOPMENT OF SUSTAINABLE MATERIAL

In 2013, we inaugurated the Material Concept Lab, at the Eugênio de Melo unit, in the São José dos Campos (SP) region. The laboratory researches local innovative material, with sustainable characteristics that can be used in the construction of aircraft and in the automotive sector. Among these materials of low environmental impact are metals, ceramics, polymers, textiles and composites.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY AT WORK POLICY

Embraer maintains an Environment and Occupational Health and Safety at Work Policy with clear principles and guidelines that must be adopted by the entire company, all over the world, for subject areas such as eco-efficiency, engagement of the supply chain, product development (Design for Environment practices) and concern over climate change.
