What is Active Turbulence Reduction?
--
Throughout our history, engineers and designers at Embraer have built impressive machines that reach for the clouds.

And for decades, passengers have soared the clouds on aircraft whose controls were powered manually with levers, pulleys, gears and cables. In fact, Embraer’s Bandeirante, Tucano, Ipanema, Brasilia, Xavante and many other Embraer models operated with mostly mechanical controls.
However, the advancement of flight controls alleviated the drawbacks of a mechanical flight control system. Our team first introduced full digital fly-by-wire technology to Embraer’s Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 — the first innovation of its kind to the midsize jet class. Today Embraer offers full fly-by-wire in the Praetor 500 and Praetor 600, the only aircraft in the midsize and super-midsize class to offer this feature.
We explored the numerous benefits of full fly-by-wire for both pilots and passengers here, but one main benefit includes active turbulence reduction.
What is Active Turbulence Reduction?
Stability and smoothness are important both on the ground and in the air. Thanks to fly-by-wire technology, the Praetor 500 and Praetor 600 features a turbulence reduction capability that’s unique within the class to Embraer.
This capability basically acts as a shock absorber in the sky. If you have ever ridden over a bump in a vehicle with poor shocks, you can expect oscillations; however, if you ride in a vehicle with good shocks, you can expect a smoother ride. The aircraft works autonomously to reduce bumps felt by passengers. Embraer’s flight systems sense, detect, and adjusts the jet’s control surfaces one hundred times a second to dampen turbulence when it’s detected.
This benefit of full fly-by-wire makes flights aboard Embraer’s Praetor aircraft more comfortable for passenger and crew. Not to mention, the Praetors have best-in-class cabin altitude and an ultra-quiet environment, providing you an opportunity to rest and arrive without fatigue.
