Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has repatriated 130 Brazilians stranded in seven countries across West Africa. With transportation networks disrupted and cross-border travel made difficult because of the global pandemic, Brazilians had no way to get home.

The rescue plan was the joint effort of seven embassies and one consulate-general and coordinated by the Embassy of Brazil in Ghana.

On July 21, Brazilian nationals in Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Nigeria, and Senegal traveled by land and air to Accra. Many of the evacuees flew on Africa World Airlines ERJ145s to Accra where they connected to a special Azul Airlines charter flight to Campinas.
